December 2nd 2010 will be remembered as a disaster day for Israel when fire was set on the Carmel National Park and quickly spread over most of the forested area due to the dry weather. Damun prison on top of the mountain was endangered and a bus with the prison authorities cadets was sent to evacuate it. The bus was trapped in the fire inferno near kibbutz Beit Oren. A firefighters truck hurried to rescue them and 3 police commanders but they couldn't save them, neither themselves. 44 people lost their lives in the fire.
